Ask D'Mine: Hopscotch Insulin?
Need help navigating life with diabetes? You can always Ask D'Mine! Welcome again to our weekly Q&A column, hosted by veteran type 1, diabetes author and community educator Wil Dubois. This week, Wil is talking about just how minimal you can get ...
We present a review of the classifications, pathophysiology, and evidence-based guidelines for planning and preventive measures, as well as best practice recommendations for both routine and urgent therapeutic management of diabetes and glycemic complications. These recommendations are graded based on the quality of supporting evidence and balance between the benefits and risks or burdens for each recommendation.
This study investigated the impact of including fetal growth parameters in the monitoring of pregnant women with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Patients/Method 199 pregnant women with type 1 DM were included in a cohort study. The patient population was divided into two study cohorts. In the mBG cohort (n = 94; investigation period: 1994 - 2005) treatment was monitored using only maternal blood glucose (mBG) values; the aim was to achieve standard target glucose values (mean BG
Senescent cells are a cause of aging, and much of the present focus in the study of cellular senescence is thus on targeting and destroying these unwanted cells in order to treat aging. However, a comparatively recent and intriguing finding is that at least some autoimmune diseases, such as type 1 diabetes, involve cellular senescence. The question at present is whether or not this true for all forms of autoimmunity. An autoimmune condition must have a trigger, something that prompts the immune system to attack healthy tissues, and it is possible that many different triggers converge on the generation of senescent c...
(University of Jyv ä skyl ä - Jyv ä skyl ä n yliopisto) Enteroviruses can cause severe diseases such as encephalitis or myocarditis, and have been associated with chronic diseases such as type 1 diabetes. In her dissertation at the University of Jyvaskyla M.Sc Mira Laajala focuses on viral and host cell factors that promote the infection of enterovirus B species after cell entry. The research showed that in addition to enteroviral proteases, cellular calpain proteases can cleave the enteroviral polyprotein. The information may possibly be used in antiviral development.

Conclusion: In a representative Brazilian population of T1DM patients, those with IDAA1c ≤ 9 presented a lower frequency of MC, as well as fewer episodes of hypoglycemia, in the month prior to the analysis.
Conclusions: Investing in and funding basic and translational childhood diabetes research and encouraging collaborative studies, will bring enormous benefits financially, economically, and socially for the whole of the Middle East region.

Conclusions/interpretationThis study provides a proof of principle for the use of iPSC-derived immune cells for modelling key cellular interactions in human type 1 diabetes.
AbstractAims/hypothesisCardiovascular disease is the most common comorbidity in type 1 diabetes. However, current guidelines do not include routine assessment of myocardial function. We investigated whether echocardiography provides incremental prognostic information in individuals with type 1 diabetes without known heart disease.MethodsA prospective cohort of individuals with type 1 diabetes without known heart disease was recruited from the outpatient clinic. Follow-up was performed through Danish national registers. The association of echocardiography with major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and the incremental p...
