Embolization of Bleeding Pulmonary Arterial Pseudoaneurysm in a Woman with Infective Endocarditis

We describe a case of bleeding PAP in a young drug-addicted woman with tricuspid annuloplasty following infective endocarditis, which was promptly identified by computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) and successfully treated using coil embolization. Perfusion scintigraphy at 30 days confirmed the safety of endovascular treatment.

However, there is a paucity of data regarding the current outcome and predictor of in-hospital mortality in patients with infective endocarditis. Methods: Consecutive patients diagnosed as infective endocarditis based on the modified Duke criteria at Kansai Medical University hospital from January 2006 to June 2019 were prospectively included. The primary outcome was in-hospital mortality. Cox proportional ha...

Authors: Reddy S, Rao K R, Kashyap JR, Kadiyala V, Reddy H, Malhotra S, Daggubati R, Kumar S, Soni H, Kaur N, Kaur J, Ramalingam V Abstract Aim: Coronary slow flow (SF) is an important complication of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) associated with poor prognosis. The aim was to assess grey-scale intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and virtual histology (VH-IVUS) characteristics of culprit lesion in ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).Methods: A total of 295 consecutive patients with STEMI underwent coronary angiogram and IVUS. Following PCI, patients divided into two groups; SF (thrombolysis in myocard...

In conclusion, the results of the ISCHEMIA trial are in good accordance with those of the MR-INFORM trial recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine, as the noninvasive management of a large proportion of patients with CAD was shown to be noninferior to current invasive strategies. Recent outcome data from trials may therefore have an impact on future guidelines to further reduce the execution of unnecessary left heart catheterizations. CONCLUSION: Nonrandomized comparison of different surgical approaches is challenging. In our experience, 3D-VATS was safe and effective and offered excellent operative perception and sensitivity, enabling safer dissection of hilar structures. The 3D-VATS system helped skilled surgeons beyond the boundaries of more oncologically aggressive surgery. PMID: 32458749 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

This study aimed to investigate the importance of Lipocalin-type prostaglandin D synthase (L-PGDS) in predicting mortality and prognosis in PTE. The study prospectively included 90 patients who were admitted to the emergency department and in whom PTE was confirmed by computed tomographic pulmonary angiography as well as 40 healthy volunteers with no disease. L-PGDS levels in the venous blood were measured and compared. Pulmonary embolism severity index (PESI) prognosis scores of all patients and 1-month mortality rate were calculated. There was a statistically significant difference between the L-PGDS levels of the patien...

We reported 10 ASA I –II patients admitted for elective primary THA, receiving LIA during (5) and at the end of surgery (5). For the PENG block we used a single injection of 40 ml levobupivacaine 0.25% and dexamethasone 4 mg. For LIA, a mixture of 0.25% levobupivacaine, ketorolac, epinephrine, and morphine was injec ted into periarticular tissues. The pain intensity was evaluated with a numeric rating scale. All patients were fully satisfied and improvement in pain relief, symptoms, and functional activity was remarkable. Intraoperative blood losses ranged 100–600 ml. No intraoperative complicati...

Purpose of review The aim of this review is to provide an update on recent trends of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) and the current global strategies implemented to manage them. Recent findings The number of NPS has increased from 166 in 2009 to 892 in 2018, with about 36% having stimulant effects. Such trend revels some unprecedented patterns. The decline in the emergence of new synthetic cannabinoids has coincided with rising deaths due to overdose of fentanyl and non-fentanyl compounds in North America and Europe. The detection of new stimulant NPS has stabilized since 2015. Although the level of seizures of mep...
