Conclusion: To our knowledge, no published study on MUNE reference values of military veteran population has been available. The quantifiable values of both thenar MUNE and IHG strength of military veterans serve as baselines for our longitudinal follow-up of motor neuron function of deployed troops. The results suggest, that for stroke, information from the brain is modified thereby resulting in motor units firing at their natural frequency. Thus, high spatial resolution electromyography and the chosen parameters facilitate non-invasive, objective differentiation and analysis of the activation patterns of motor units in neuromuscular disorders.

We present the case of an 81-year-old male who developed severe hyponatremia following elective total hip replacement. His past medical history included prostate cancer, which was under surveillance, and ischemic heart disease. He reported recent weight loss, worsening shortness of breath, and lethargy. In this study, we examined the relationship between the SOD1 A4V cysteine residues and aggregation, ER stress induction and toxicity. We report here that mutation of Cys-6 and Cys-111 in mutant SOD1 A 4V, but not Cys-57 or Cys-146, ameliorates ER stress, inclusion formation and apoptosis in neuronal cell lines. These results imply that protein misfolding, induced by Cys-6 and Cys-111, is required for these pathological events in neuronal cells.
