Ill. EMT Has Head Shaved by Young Cancer Survivor for Awareness

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) -- A surprise connection gave a family and a first responder a lasting friendship. Nine year-old cancer survivor Tanner Haurez is trying to raise money for others going through treatment. Today, he shaved the head of the paramedic who helped care for him. Tanner Haurez was diagnosed with leukemia in the beginning of 2013. That's when he made the two and a half hour long trip to get the treatment he needed. "Cody was Tanner's EMT that took him to St. Louis from Carle in Champaign when he was diagnosed." Ever since that drive, the Haurez family has kept in contact with Carle Parademic Cody Carpenter. "He took him in, made him comfortable for the ride and kind of the beginning of the journey." Now, nearly five years later they're shaving his head in honor of Tanner and Chance Kissler.   Chance Kissler was another child going through treatment around the same time.
