Transcriptional regulation of stress kinase JNK2 in pro-arrhythmic CaMKII δ expression in the aged atrium

ConclusionJNK2 activation up-regulates CaMKII δ expression in the aged atrium. This JNK2 regulation in CaMKIIδ expression occurs at the transcription level through the JNK downstream transcription factor c-jun. The discovery of this novel molecular mechanism of JNK2-regulated CaMKII expression sheds new light on possible anti-arrhythmia drug development.

(University of California - Irvine) Low oxygen levels in the heart have long been known to produce life-threatening arrhythmias, even sudden death. Until now, it was not clear how. New findings, in a study led by Steve A. N. Goldstein, MD, PhD, vice chancellor for Health Affairs at the University of California, Irvine, and distinguished professor in the UCI School of Medicine Departments of Pediatrics and Physiology&Biophysics, reveal the underlying mechanism for this dangerous heart disorder.

ConclusionIn multimorbidity analysis, other cardiovascular diseases had a strong association with HF. However, in multiple causes of death analysis, there was a strong association between kidney disease and HF.

DiscussionIn hindsight I feel there are very few alternative causes for an ECG like this other than an acute LAD occlusion. I believe this is one of those'subtle STEMI'cases where neither the ECG nor the symptoms are very obvious or severe and the usual evolution is not seen.I think of these cases as'insidious infarcts'and I have seen this in all infarct territories and I do not think they are particularly rare. Essentially the patient is fairly comfortable and the ECG is not obvious but the patient ended up with Q waves, huge troponins and we missed the opportunity to reperfuse the artery when it counts. These patients te...

Conclusion: the patients gave the highest health-related quality of life ratings in regard to mental domains and the lowest ratings for the physical domains.RESUMEN Objetivo: evaluar la calidad de vida relacionada con la salud de pacientes con marcapaso card íaco definitivo.

ConclusionWe observed that atrial sensing capability in single ‐chamber ICD patients without evidence of atrial arrhythmias at implant is associated with a greater likelihood of detecting AT/AF episodes. The management of these diagnosed arrhythmias often led to clinical interventions, mainly represented by initiation of OAC therapy. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

AbstractPurposeEarly detection of cardiac arrhythmias is a major opportunity for mobile health, as wearable devices nowadays available can detect single-lead electrocardiogram (ECG). The study aims to validate the in-ear region as a new anatomical site for ECG signal detection and looks towards designing innovative ECG wearable devices.MethodsWe performed ECG using KardiaMobile device (AliveCor ®) on 35 healthy volunteers. First, ECG was detected by standard modality using both hands. Then, ECG was detected using the left in-ear region instead of the right hand. All the recorded ECGs were analyzed by the device and by ...
