We report a case of Roseomonas mucosa bacteremia that involved a 9-year-old Japanese boy who was in a condition of febrile neutropenia caused by chemotherapy for cerebellar medulloblastoma. Conventional phenotyping failed to identify the organism; however, genetic analysis using 16S rDNA sequencing confirmed the pathogen to be R. mucosa. The patient recovered following treatment by meropenem without any complications. A literature review of pediatric cases of Roseomonas bacteremia identified 12 other documented cases, and these revealed that a common clinical situation for the infection is an immunocompromised state with m...

ConclusionsHBOT is safe and well-tolerated in pediatric and young adult patients with CNS tumors. Clinical and radiographic improvements were observed in over half of patients. Clinical trials are needed to establish safety and efficacy of HBOT as adjunct therapy in pediatric CNS tumors.

Over the decades there has been a trend to use radiation therapy less frequently for treatment of pediatric brain tumors (1). The effort to avoid radiation is not the result of a lack of efficacy but rather a fear of long-term side effects of radiation, including neurocognitive delay and other life-altering consequences. For many pediatric brain tumors, omission of radiation therapy significantly compromises tumor control rates; thus, radiation therapy remains an essential component of first-line therapy for many pediatric brain tumors, including medulloblastoma, diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), high-grade gliomas,...

ConclusionsTo date>40 cases of liponeurocytoma have been reported, including cases with supratentorial location. A review of the 5 published cases of recurrent cerebellar. Liponeurocytoma revealed that the median interval between the first and second relapse was rather short, indicating uncertain malignant potential. The most recent WHO classification of brain tumours (2016) classifies the cerebellar liponeurocytoma as a separate entity and assigns the tumour to WHO grade II. Medulloblastoma is the most important differential diagnosis commonly seen in children and young adults. In contrast, cerebellar liponeurocytoma i...

Purpose of review Medulloblastoma is no more a unique disease. Clinical and biologic classification used so far are challenged by molecular classification(s). Following the consensus article that described four molecular groups of medulloblastoma in 2012, several articles in 2017 provided more relevant classifications that may impact on further clinical trial design. Recent findings Though wingless (WNT) and sonic hedgehog (SHH) are defined by the activation of their respective pathways, the age and type of activation define various subgroups with specific features and outcome. Groups 3 and 4 remain ill defined. The w...

ConclusionThese preclinical findings indicate that mebendazole alone or in combination with radiation can be considered for the treatment of malignant meningioma. The mechanism of action for this combination may include an increase in apoptosis, a reduction in proliferation and angiogenesis, or a combination of these effects.

ConclusionMedulloblastoma cell lines accumulate PPIX after application of 5-ALA and become sensitive to PDT, associated with low ferrochelatase expression and activity. Photosensitivity is more pronounced in MYC-amplified cell lines. In contrast to GBM cells, however, PPIX accumulation appears to be reduced, restricted to a subset of cells and associated with lower photosensitivity of the MB cell lines, possibly due to expression of the ABCG2 transporter protein CD338 on MB cells.
