The efficacy of the traditional Chinese medicine Juanbi pill combined with methotrexate in active rheumatoid arthritis: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

DiscussionAlthough the Juanbi pill has been used in China for many years to treat RA, there is a lack of consensus about its effectiveness. This trial will provide convincing evidence about the effect of Juanbi pill on active RA.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov,NCT02885597. Registered on 30 August 2016.

Abstract The contribution of dyslipidemia and inflammation in atherosclerosis is well established. Along with effective lipid-lowering treatments, the recent success of clinical trials with anti-inflammatory therapies and the accelerated atherosclerosis in many autoimmune diseases suggest that targeting inflammation may open new avenues for the prevention and the treatment for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). In the past decades, studies have widened the role of type-I interferons (IFNs) in disease, from antivirus defense to autoimmune responses and immuno-metabolic syndromes. While elevated type-I IFN level in ser...

Abstract Newly formed B cells (NF-B cells) that emerge from the bone marrow to the periphery have often been referred to as immature or transitional B cells. However, NF-B cells have several striking characteristics, including a distinct BCR repertoire, high expression of AID, high sensitivity to PAMPs, and the ability to produce cytokines. A number of findings do not support their designation as immature because NF-B cells have the potential to become Ab-producing cells and to undergo class-switch recombination. In this review, we provide a fresh perspective on NF-B cell functions and describe some of the signals...

Authors: Tonlorenzi D, Brunelli M, Conti M, Covani U, Traina G Abstract Increasing occlusal vertical dimension (OVD) by means of oral splints is a practice widely used in the treatment of temporomandibular disorders (TMD), specifically myofascial pain, although the results are still uncertain. Oral splints with a vertical height that significantly exceeds the clinical rest position are considered by some researchers to be a better therapeutic solution in alleviating TMD symptoms than are "low" splints. In our observational study, 21 patients suffering from myofascial pain were examined for the effects of w...

Conclusion: The patient number is not large enough to make a broad conclusion. However, the individualized treatments and long follow-ups, together with detailed literature review, suggest that CSM requires individualized staged treatments based on each patient's condition. A period of "wait and see" before starting with either surgery or radiation treatment can benefit the patient. PMID: 31819821 [PubMed]

Authors: Sangrador M, Olvera JG, Ortiz VM Abstract A 25-year-old woman presented with a 4 months history of progressive pain and tumefaction in the right parietal region. Deformity of the scalp was evident, and a biopsy was taken, reporting a high- grade dermatofibrosarcoma. She underwent surgical management, achieving a gross total resection. Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is a rare tumor arising from the dermis. It tends to have an indolent course and local recurrence after excision. PMID: 31819815 [PubMed]

Discussion: Although NBZG has shown efficacy in treating RA in Longhua Hospital for decades, the universality of this efficacy needs evaluated. The results of this trial will provide a convincing evidence about NBZG's efficacy in treating active RA in a large population.
