We thank Dr Safiri for his interest in our research. The article by Cordoba et  al that he cited states that the use of composite outcomes in trials is problematic because the components often are combined unreasonably, defined inconsistently, and reported inadequately.1 In our study, we used the combination of maternal preeclampsia, perinatal death, and morbidity. We would t hink this was reasonable because these outcomes are known to be correlated and may share a cause. The definitions of the outcomes that we used are defined in detail in our previous publications.
