Clinical application of targeted next-generation sequencing on fetuses with congenital heart defects.

CONCLUSIONS: Targeted NGS of fetuses with isolated and non-isolated CHDs achieved a high diagnostic yield in our cohort, with an acceptable turnaround time for the prenatal setting. Our results have important implications for clinical management and genetic counseling. PMID: 29536580 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusion: Ambulatory renal and cardio-vascular follow-up in case of neonatal medical history can be enhanced, with necessity to raise awareness and to edict guidelines available to pediatricians. What is Known:•There is a compelling evidence of long-term renal and cardiovascular consequences of prematurity and low birth weight.•Specific cardiovascular and renal follow-up guidelines, coming from professional organizations, are currently not available for these patients. What is New:•Pediatricians in ambulatory setting do not adapt their renal and cardiovascular follow-up in case of neonatal medical history.&b...

CONCLUSION: The ultrasonography measure of right liver lobe diameter by itself can reliably identify patients with NAFLD with a good sensitivity and specificity, however, this can be improved by adding the LAP mathematical index in our population. PMID: 33031969 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

This study was designed to examine the effect of TEAS for pain relief in women undergoing transvaginal ultrasound-guided oocyte aspiration. This single-blinded, multicenter, randomized controlled trial was performed in China between May 2013 and May 2015. The subjects were randomized to mock TEAS and TEAS. TEAS or mock TEAS was administered 30 min before oocyte retrieval until the end of the operation. The primary and secondary endpoints were the pain measured using the visual analog scale (VAS) within 1 min and 1 hour after oocyte retrieval, respectively. Serum β-endorphin levels were tested in the firs...

AbstractPurpose of reviewTransthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM) is a disease with high morbidity and mortality. This disease is significantly underdiagnosed and is more common than previously appreciated, particularly among older adults and people of African descent. This review discusses recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment for ATTR-CM.Recent findingsHistorically, ATTR-CM was diagnosed via endomyocardial biopsy, a resource-intensive and invasive approach. However, in most cases, ATTR-CM can now be diagnosed non-invasively using bone tracer cardiac scintigraphy, which may facilitate earlier diagnosis. In ...

AbstractPurpose of reviewRapid advancements in technology and electronic medical record systems have given rise to massive amounts of cardiac imaging data with the potential to alter medical practices. The rise of machine learning (ML) and radiomics – the concept that images contain invaluable data regarding disease processes beyond what the eyes can see – promises increased precision and accuracy to the current standard of care. Recent advancements in major cardiac imaging modalities, such as echocardiography, cardiac CT and cardiac MRI, h ave uncovered promising diagnostic and prognostic information through t...
