Genetic polymorphisms of vitamin D3 metabolizing CYP24A1 and CYP2R1 enzymes in Turkish patients with ischemic stroke.

Conclusion This is the first study conducted regarding the association of CYP24A1 rs927650 and CYP2R1 rs10741657 genetic polymorphisms and ischemic stroke risk. The polymorphic genotypes of these polymorphisms, together with hypertension, diabetes, smoking, and obesity, were found as significant risk factors for ischemic stroke. CONCLUSION: Incidence of repeated thrombectomy was low. However, the high number of patients with known origin of stroke etiology raises the question how their monitoring may be optimized. The number of patients with remarkable extracranial pathologies or intracranial endothelial lesions supports current clinical practice to pay attention to final angiographic series. Authors: Harrison B, Brown D Abstract Background: Self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) can play a key role in diabetes management. The CONTOUR®NEXT ONE (Ascensia Diabetes Care, Parsippany, NJ, USA) blood glucose monitoring system (BGMS) has been developed for use with CONTOUR®NEXT test strips. The meter connects to the CONTOUR™ Diabetes application on a mobile device, and the Second-Chance® sampling feature recognizes insufficient sample volume, prompting the patient to apply more blood to the same strip if needed (sample re-application).Research design and methods: Two studies evaluated CONTOU...

Basel, 13 December 2019 - Roche (SIX: RO, ROG; OTCQX: RHHBY) today announced the Phase III IMspire150 study, in people with previously untreated BRAF V600 mutation-positive advanced melanoma, met its primary endpoint of progression-free survival (PFS). The study showed adding Tecentriq ® (atezolizumab) to Cotellic® (cobimetinib) and Zelboraf® (vemurafenib) helped to reduce the risk of disease worsening or death, compared to placebo plus Cotellic and Zelboraf. A significant and clinically meaningful improvement in PFS was demonstrated in the study. The safety ...

Conclusions Preoperative vitamin D was not associated with a composite of postoperative 30-day cardiac outcomes. However, there was a significant association between vitamin D deficiency and a composite of infectious complications and decreased kidney function. While renal effects were not clinically meaningful, the effect of vitamin D supplementation on infectious complications requires further study.

Authors: Dalmády S, Kemény L, Antal M, Gyulai R Abstract Introduction: Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune skin disease with strong genetic background and environmental triggers. Patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis are at greater risk of developing other chronic and potentially severe comorbidities, such as psoriatic arthritis, hyperlipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular diseases or depression. Recently, accumulating epidemiologic, genetic and pathogenetic evidence indicates that psoriasis is also associated with periodontitis, a chronic progressive ...

Conclusion: Cladosporium can cause endogenous endophthalmitis and mimic toxoplasma retinochoroiditis. Vitreous biopsy can help in diagnosis in the absence of positive blood culture. Intravitreal voriconazole along with systemic voriconazole shows a good response. PMID: 31825695 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
