Posttraumatic stress disorder and mortality in VA patients with implantable cardioverter defibrillator

ConclusionIn this retrospective cohort study among more than 25,000 veterans undergoing ICD implantation almost 13% had a diagnosis of PTSD. Subjects with PTSD were significantly younger yet they had a higher incidence of CHD, major cardiac comorbidities, cancer, and mental health conditions. Our study did not find an association between presence of PTSD before or after ICD implant and incident death when adjusted for all covariates.
