Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty: The Past, Current Controversies, and Future Perspectives

J Knee Surg DOI: 10.1055/s-0038-1625961Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) is a bone conserving and ligament-sparing procedure that reliably restores normal knee kinematics and function for arthritis limited either to the medial or the lateral compartment of the knee. Although there is enough evidence to demonstrate that the UKA offers good medium to long-term success given the correct patient selection, prosthesis design, and implantation technique, there are several reports to suggest inferior survival rates in comparison with the total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Furthermore, it is a specialized procedure which works well in the hands of the experienced operator and therefore different authors' tend to draw different conclusions based on the same evidence, and as a result, there is great variability in the usage of the UKA. The aim of this current concept's review is to present to the readers the history of the UKA especially with reference to implant design, discuss current controversies, and outline the future perspectives of this novel procedure. Authors: Radi G, Campanati A, Diotallevi F, Molinelli E, Offidani A Abstract BACKGROUND: Apremilast is a "small molecule", an oral phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitor indicated for the twice- daily treatment of adults with psoriasis (PsO) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Data concerning clinical experience in real world setting with Apremilast for psoriasis are still exiguous, and aim of this report is to provide our experience in the use of Apremilast in out-patient setting. METHODS: Ten caucasian individuals (6 male, 4 females; mean age 69,3; range 53-81 years) affected by moderate to severe plaque psoriasi...

Following more than eleven centuries of therapeutic uncertainty, the discovery of the therapeutic properties of glucocorticoids is without any doubt one of the most significant advance in the field of autoimmune diseases. The many progresses made by rapidly growing chemical industry of the 19th century chemistry ha...

ConclusionIn patients under long-term dialysis, β2M DRA involves large joints but also the spine. Special awareness should be drawn by the thickening of the tendon. MRI is required to characterize the pattern of the lesions and to achieve the diagnosis.

You already know that poor or abbreviated sleep makes you feel lousy and impairs daytime performance. It also amplifies appetite, particularly for snacks, making poor sleep a weight gain factor all by itself. People who chronically lack sleep can easily gain 10, 20, or 30 pounds over the course of a year just from this effect. Sleep deprivation has numerous health implications beyond just crabbiness and daytime sleepiness. The physiologic disruptions of sleep deprivation include increased risk for high blood pressure, asthma, arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Poor sleep can even contribute to risk for ...
