Funding Tip 4 – Get the okay

You have read through the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Middle Atlantic Region’s Requests for Proposals. You have a great idea for a project. Maybe you have even talked to some potential partners. Now what? It’s time to “Get the Okay” to apply for funding. From whom might you need to get the okay? Your supervisor The department in your academic institution responsible for managing grants – that department might be called Office of Sponsored Projects, Office of Research, or External Relations. Your non-profit’s board of directors The person/department who can sign contracts If purchasing technology, the person/department responsible for installing and maintaining It’s important to get the okay early – often, the people in your institution responsible for approving the grant application will need some time to review before submission. That means you may need to have the application written a few days or even a couple of weeks prior to the official application deadline. These departments can also be great supports to you – they may offer advice or support in writing funding applications and have ideas for other potential funders.
