WITH OVER 4,000 lung transplant cases performed each year, lung transplantation remains a critical therapy for patients with a wide variety of end-stage lung diseases.1 Although long-term survival after lung transplantation is inferior compared with other solid organ transplants, such as heart, kidney, and liver, it does prolong life expectancy with a median survival of 7.4 years and 4.6 years for double- and single-lung transplant, respectively.1
