Should we Consider the Next ICD Trial in the Acute Coronary Syndrome Patients with Monomorphic VT?

Episodes of sustained ventricular tachycardia (VT) or ventricular fibrillation (VF) observed during acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and acute myocardial infarction have always been of significant concerns. Recent data from cohorts with aggressive revascularization management of ACS indicated that VF increases in-hospital mortality but does not influence long-term mortality (1-2). The study of 3,670 acute myocardial infarction patients hospitalized in France in 2005 (1) demonstrated that 3% cases developed VF which was associated with a 7-fold increase in in-hospital mortality but was not associated with increase in a 5-year survival.
