Authors: Righini M, Robert-Ebadi H, Le Gal G Abstract The diagnosis of pulmonary embolism (PE) is nowadays based on the sequential use of several diagnostic tests rather than on a single test. These diagnostic strategies are safe and have been prospectively validated. The first step after identifying patients with suspicion of PE is to establish the pre-test clinical probability. Several scores are available in order to make a standardised and reproducible assessment of the clinical probability, and therefore represent precious diagnostic tools. Indeed, clinical probability guides further investigations. Indeed, in...

New developments in cross-sectional imaging, including contrast-enhanced ultrasound, dual-energy computed tomography, multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging, single-photon emission computed tomography, and positron emission tomography, together with novel application of existing and novel radiotracers, have changed the landscape of renal mass characterization (ie, virtual biopsy) as well as the detection of metastatic disease, prognostication, and response assessment in patients with advanced kidney cancer.01/25/2019

, Kubinyi J Abstract (18)F-fluorocholine positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FCH) was performed after inconclusive neck ultrasound and (99)Tc-sestaMIBI SPECT (MIBI) scintigraphy in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) to localize abnormal parathyroid glands before surgery. The results were retrospectively evaluated and compared to postoperative histopathological findings. 13 patients with PHPT were enrolled (mean age 64.3 years, preoperative calcium 2.74 mmol/l and parathyroid hormone 114.6 ng/l). FCH localized hyperfunctioning parathyroid glands in 12 patients of 13 (per patient sensitiv...

We report a case of 75-year-old woman with follicular thyroid cancer, who underwent ablative radioiodine treatment. On post-therapy whole body scan, abnormal uptake in the left upper abdomen was found, although stimulated thyroglobulin level was not suggestive for distant metastases of differentiated thyroid carcinoma. Additional SPECT/CT acquisition revealed focal 131I uptake located at the posterolateral wall of the left kidney corresponding to a round lesion of 47 mm in maximal diameter. In order to verify this finding abdominal ultrasound and abdominal contrast-enhanced CT were performed, confirming multiple renal cyst...

Conclusions99mTc-sestamibi may have a role in thyroid cancer localization when physical exam, neck ultrasound, radioiodine scan, chest/abdomen CT, and18F-FDG PET/CT does not identify the source of elevated Tg levels in DTC.

CONCLUSIONS: Using choline PET/CT parathyroid adenoma and probably parathyroid hyperplasia can be exactly localized in most patients with pHPT. Thus, a minimal-invasive surgical procedure is feasible with decreased risk of complications but high success rate in terms of biochemical cure. The diagnostic accuracy in multiglandular disease remains to be established. PMID: 30264384 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

AbstractPurpose of ReviewPulmonary embolism (PE) is a common condition with high morbidity and mortality particularly if misdiagnosed or untreated. It has non-specific clinical manifestations, often presenting similarly to other cardiovascular conditions. The aim of this review is to summarize the clinical presentation, diagnostic algorithms, and imaging studies utilized to efficiently make or exclude the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism.Recent FindingsRecent cohort studies have raised questions about the classic presentations of PE (particularly with regard to syncope) or lack thereof. Diagnosis of PE continues to evolve w...

AbstractDifferent types of imaging modalities are used in the diagnosis of ocular cancer. Selection of an imaging modality is based on the features of a tumor as well as the inherent characteristics of the imaging technique. It is vital to select an appropriate imaging modality in diagnosis of ocular tumor with confidence. This review focuses on five most commonly used imaging modalities, i.e., positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT), single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), optical coherence tomography (OCT), ultrasound (US), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The principal of imaging modal...
