A Pilot Study to Investigate the Relationship Between Interaural Differences in Temporal Bone Anatomy and Normal Variations in Caloric Asymmetry.
This study assesses interaural differences in temporal bone anatomy in subjects with normal caloric findings. Method: Eligible patients included those referred to the Duke University Medical Center otology clinic complaining of dizziness, with a head computed tomography scan and caloric stimulation results within normal ranges (inter-ear difference ≤ 10% or
Conclusions: There is a high incidence of concomitant, ipsilateral fractures of the posterior malleolus in patients presenting with operative distal-third, spiral fractures of the tibia. A preoperative ankle computed tomography should be strongly considered in all cases with this specific fracture morphology. Level of Evidence: Diagnostic Level III. See Instructions for Authors for a complete description of levels of evidence.
Conclusions: The ultimate strength of comminuted olecranon fracture fixation with a PLP decreases significantly if the fracture is proximal to the midpoint of the trochlear notch. Fractures proximal to the midpoint of the trochlear notch may benefit from supplemental fixation or suture augmentation to prevent failure, particularly at force ranges higher than those experienced during active elbow range of motion.
ConclusionsGenerally, superior vena cava syndrome is the result of extrinsic compression of the superior vena cava by tumor. Our patient ’s case represents the development of superior vena cava syndrome after an excellent response of tumor with near-complete tumor response. We suspect chemoradiation therapy as a potential etiology for the precipitation of the superior vena cava syndrome, which is currently not well reported in the medical literature.
AbstractSurviving a gunshot wound to the head is a rare event, particularly in the past when medical treatment was much less advanced than it is today. Moreover, the finding of such a case as an identified specimen within a museum collection is even more uncommon. This led us to report on this unique case in this paper as it poses a challenge to forensic anthropology and provides a unique educational oppourtunity. The skull from the Collection at the Cranium Museum in the Department of Morphology and Genetic at the Federal University of S ão Paulo (UNIFESP) dates back to 1946. For trauma registration the bone locati...
ConclusionETT in the mediastinum is very rare and can be associated with normal thyroid function and normal thyroid anatomical location. It should be differentiated from substernal goiter.

ConclusionsOur findings challenge the traditional concept of spondylotic TCCS as an incomplete cervical spinal cord injury without discoligamentous injury and emphasize the importance of MRI as well as the radiologist ’s level of experience for the assessment of segmental instability in these patients.Graphical abstractThese slides can be retrieved under Electronic Supplementary Material.
