If you haven’t had a tetanus booster shot in the past decade, your doctor may recommend getting one. Many people think of a tetanus shot as something you only need if you step on a rusty nail. Yet even in the absence of a puncture wound, this vaccine is recommended for all adults at least every 10 years. But why? A group of researchers recently questioned whether you need to repeat tetanus vaccines on a regular schedule. What is a tetanus booster? Booster shots are repeat vaccinations you receive after your first series of immunizations as a child. Protection from certain vaccines can wane over time, which is why doc...

This study investigates the association between prenatal tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) risk in offspring. Retrospective cohort study of mother-child pairs born 1/1/2011-12/31/2014 at Kaiser Permanente Southern California. Tdap vaccination during pregnancy was obtained from electronic medical records. ADHD was defined by International Classification of Diseases, 9th/10th Revision codes and ADHD medications after age 3 years. Children were followed to first ADHD diagnosis, end of membership, or end of follow-up (12/31/2018). Cox proportional ha...

Alex Nowrasteh andAndrew C. ForresterThe international spread of the SARS ‐CoV‐2 virus that causes the disease COVID-19 has prompted many governments to close their borders. Immigration policy plays an important role in limiting the international spread of contagious diseases.Prior to the COVID-19 crisis, several commentators were concerned that immigrants – especially illegal immigrants – were spreading serious diseases in the United States. ConclusionFindings of our study show the need to develop and implement policies and programs to achieve complete immunization during the first year of life. Some strategies would include an increase in the primary health care services networks, improving their quality and access, the dissemination of scientific-based evidence about the benefits of vaccination, through communication campaigns and guidance provided by health professionals, especially those responsible for prenatal care.

Abstract BACKGROUND: MenACYW-TT is an investigational quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine intended for use in individuals ≥6 weeks of age. We evaluated the safety and immunogenicity of MenACYW-TT when compared to a licensed quadrivalent conjugate meningococcal vaccine (Menveo®; MCV4-CRM; GlaxoSmithKline, Italy), and when co-administered with tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) and human papilloma virus (HPV4) vaccines in healthy meningococcal vaccine-naïve adolescents (10-17 years old) in the United States of America. METHODS: In this pivotal Phase II, open-labe...

Discussion and conclusion CCS’ offspring showed comparable to significantly higher participation levels of recommended vaccinations and screening examinations than their peers from the German general population. In contrast to the general population the attendance of CCS’ offspring did not decrease with rising age. CCS’ own experiences and increased worry about their children’s health may lead to a higher prevention awareness. This should be considered in counselling parents with a cancer history. Hintergrund Impfraten und Teilnahme an Vorsorgeuntersuchungen sind ein Indikator für das Bewusstse...

The objective of this research was to generate the evidence on the private sector's contribution to overall immunization coverage for selected pediatric vaccines in India. Using IMS Health's (now IQVIA) vaccine sales audit data and innovative methodological approach we estimated private-sector vaccine share in the total immunization coverage across selected pediatric vaccines in India. Our estimates suggest that private sector remains an important contributor to immunization services in India not only for Universal Immunization Program vaccines (Bacillus Calmette–Guérin [19.23%], HiB pentavalent [11....
