Deciphering the Geriatric Rotation Evaluation Showed Negative Attitudes of Post-Acute Care and Long Term Care Curriculum

Medical students and physician trainees ’ attitude toward elderly population have a strong association on influencing a career in geriatrics, but there is paucity of information regarding the attitudes of trainees towards providing care for long term care elderly patients. The negative consequences of poor curriculum or the lack of it m ay contribute to a decreased interest to pursue fellowship in geriatric medicine. Some potential curricular interventions to offset this include an academic focus to improve medical knowledge, with some published literature demonstrating a positive impact of this intervention on attitudes toward ger iatric medicine.
