Older Adult Oral Health Risk in Arkansas

Poor oral health can lead to malnutrition, pain, and social isolation. Between 1999 and 2004, 17.2% of individuals aged 65 and above had periodontal disease, and 10.58% of all seniors were considered to have moderate or severe periodontal disease. Compared to 46% in 1980 and 30% of in 2000, 18.6% older adults were edentulous. The quantity and type of prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs taken by older adults usually cause at least 1 oral side effect, which is often dry mouth. Arkansas ’ institutionalized older adults may be at greater oral health risk due to multiple health provider shortage areas.

CONCLUSIONS: Local application of sevoflurane in the wound bed appears to exhibit analgesic, antimicrobial, and positive healing effects. It could be a promising alternative treatment to be included as a therapeutic option for wound care. PMID: 31730517 [PubMed - in process]

CONCLUSIONS: This outbreak highlighted communication failures, from hunters to consumers. Awareness should be raised on the relation between trichinellosis and game meat. Trichinella species detection is important for adequate outbreak recording and could contribute to better understanding the clinical and serological signs of T. britovi infection. Abstract Abdominal pain is a common cause for emergency department visits in the United States, and biliary tract disease is the fifth most common cause of hospital admission. Common causes of acute hepatobiliary include gallstones and its associated complications and multiple other hepatobiliary etiologies, including infectious, inflammatory, vascular, and neoplastic causes. Postoperative complications of the biliary tract can result in an acute abdomen. Imaging of the hepatobiliary tree is integral in the diagnostic evaluation of acute hepatobiliary dysfunction, and imaging of the biliary tree requires a multimo...

Conclusion: This study found a difference of mean percentage MVC of RF and BF muscles between land and water in different phases of squatting. The water medium reduced the two muscles’ activities to a similar extent. The result showed that the aquatic environment allows an individual to perform squatting with less muscle activation which may serve as an alternative knee exercise option for patients who encounter difficulty in land squatting due to lower limb muscle weakness or a high level of knee pain.
