The Journal of Emergency Medical Services Announce the 2018 John P. Pryor, MD/ Street Medicine Society Award

CHARLOTTE, NC –  Benjamin J. Lawner, DO, MS, EMT-P, FACEP, has been awarded the 2018 John P. Pryor, MD/Street Medicine Society Award at the EMS Today conference in Charlotte, NC. Dr. Benjamin J. Lawner is recognized as an emergency medicine advocate focusing on clinical and educational excellence. Dr. Lawner is currently the Medical Director of Prehospital Services for Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His academic and operational responsibilities include oversight for EMS agencies, a critical care transport program, and graduate medical education in emergency medical services. Dr. Lawner’s educational background includes completion of EMT training, paramedic school, Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine and is in the process of securing official approval for an EMS fellowship program. During and in between his years in school and trainings Lawner was always been deeply involved in the education of EMS providers from college and university-level EMS programs. Lawner has helped lead the way in developing a greater scope of practice for advanced providers. He helped to formulate evidence-based protocols regarding spinal protection and the use of Ketamine in the prehospital setting. In 1995 he helped start the University of Florida’s first basic life support squad. Later at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, he supervised a dedicated medical student elective in EMS and provided medical direction for various mass gathering event...
