Psychotic experiences among police officers working in high-stress situations

Childhood trauma is a well-established risk factors for psychosis in adulthood (Kelleher et al., 2013). Recent work has suggested that this may be mediated by trauma exposure in adulthood, which frequently occurs among individuals exposed to childhood trauma and has likewise been linked to psychosis (Bhavsar et al., 2017). Nonetheless, trauma exposure in adulthood has been less studied in relation to psychosis, with some exceptions (e.g., crime victimization; Newbury et al., 2017; intimate partner violence: Shah et al., 2017).
