Voice from the FieldJourneys of Life and Death: Rohingya Refugees Share Their StoriesFebruary 20, 2018More than688,000 Rohingya refugees have arrived in Cox's Bazar, a district in southeastern Bangladesh, since late August 2017 after fleeing a campaign of targeted violence and persecution in Rakhine state, Myanmar. They join hundreds of thousands more ethnic Rohingya who had made the same journey during previous crises. The Rohingya, a predominantly Muslim minority denied citizenship and other rights in Myanmar, have settled in existing camps as well as in new makeshift settlements established by Bangladeshi authorities.
