Motorcycle Response Units in EMS

Patric Lausch will moderate the panel "Using Motorcycles in EMS Response" at EMS Today in Charlotte, N.C. Patric's session will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018 from 1:15 - 2:45 pm. He will be joined by members of other EMS motorcycle teams. Dr. Lausch and his co-presenters will also explain the operational and patient care benefits resulting from the deployment of a well-equipped, efficient first response motorcycle at special events.  More information located here.   Motorcycles are utilized in Fire & EMS in Europe, Asia and beyond Motorcycle use in both Fire and EMS is very common outside of the US. In many countries in Europe and Asia, fast response motorcycles are used to reach patients and emergency scenes where dense populations, traffic and small streets in old cities slow traditional ambulance and quick response vehicles (QRV). Distances, poor weather, obstacles or lack of resources can hinder helicopter response, so Motorcycle Response Units (MRUs) are an extremely versatile, efficient way to augment traditional EMS and fire response. Safety is the key for EMS and fire agencies who are considering MRUs to bolster their system capabilities. With proper training, the safety issues of using motorcycles are minimized and are almost negligible when compared to the real-world benefits of running EMS and fire MRUs.
