Combined effects of rTMS and botulinum toxin therapy in benign essential blepharospasm
Benign essential blepharospasm (BEB) is disabling focal dystonia resulting in functional blindness due to excessive closure of eyelids. Botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) is an effective first-line therapy however the clinical benefits with the injections administered every 12 weeks can be suboptimal and last only about 8 –10 weeks [1,2]. Thus there is a clear merit in exploring novel adjunct treatments. (see Table 1)
