Heath care costs growing faster than the economy

Increased spending on prescription medications will continue to drive up health care costs faster than the economy grows as Baby Boomers age and the use of expensive specialty drugs rises. Department of Health and Human Services actuaries Wednesday projected health care costs will rise by an average of 5.5 percent annually through 2026, rising from $3.7 trillion to $5.7 trillion in eight years.
