Can Texting Improve Preoperative and Postoperative Communication With Parents?

ENSURING THAT PARENTS can provide adequate, safe, and effective preoperative and postoperative care is a key role of the perioperative nurse. This function has become ever more challenging given the expansion of ambulatory surgery to include more invasive procedures in potentially sicker children. Preoperatively, parents need critical instructions to be certain children are ready for surgery. Postoperatively, parents need to understand how to provide care to ensure a safe and speedy recovery.
