Autophagy as a target for glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis therapy. Recently, mounting evidences highlight an important correlation between autophagy and bone homeostasis, mediated by osteoclasts, osteocytes, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, and osteoblasts, and autophagy plays a vital role in the pathogenesis of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIOP). The combinations of autophagy activators/inhibitors with anti-GIOP first-line drugs or some new autophagy-based manipulators, such as regulation of B cell lymphoma 2 family proteins and caspase-dependent clearance of autophagy-related gene proteins, are likely to be the promising approaches for GIOP clinical treatments. In view of the important role of autophagy in the pathogenesis of GIOP, here we review the potential mechanisms about the impacts of autophagy in GIOP and its association with GIOP therapy. Conclusions The clinical trials discussed here, which include several trials investigating novel therapeutic targets, demonstrate that translational research in pemphigus and pemphigoid is a fast-growing field. In this study, we show that calorie restriction is protective against age-related increases in senescence and microglia activation and pro-inflammatory cytokine expression in an animal model of aging. Further, these protective effects mitigated age-related decline in neuroblast and neuronal production, and enhanced olfactory memory performance, a behavioral index of neurogenesis in the SVZ. A 60-year-old multi-morbid male patient with polycystic kidney disease and secondary chronic renal insufficiency stage G5 A3 according to Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) classification was referred to our hospital with radiological differential diagnoses of sarcoidosis, ectasia of the pulmonary arteries, lymphoma, or central bronchial carcinoma with contralateral hilar lymph node metastases.
