Anticoagulant Protein S Targets the Factor IXa Heparin-Binding Exosite to Prevent Thrombosis.

CONCLUSIONS: Our findings establish PS as an important in vivo inhibitor of FIXa. Disruption of the interaction between PS and FIXa causes an increased rate of thrombus formation in mice.
