Telangiectatic Matting is Associated with Hypersensitivity and a Bleeding Tendency.

CONCLUSION: TM is associated with both hypersensitivity and a bleeding tendency. This study revealed no significant increase in the incidence of haemostatic abnormalities in patients with TM compared with the control group. Given the significant association with hypersensitivity disorders, the underlying mast cell hyper-reactivity may contribute to both hypersensitivity and a bleeding tendency and predispose patients to TM. We describe a unique case of severe coagulopathy caused by underestimated blood loss during caesarean section without postpartum bleeding, in which transfusion requirements were thromboelastometry-guided. This case report depicts how an early multidisciplinary approach and patient-centred care in an obstetric emergency contributes to a positive outcome from a challenging situation, enabling the prevention of an imminent, catastrophic haemorrhage. A 54-year-old man with ventricular septum defect and Eisenmenger syndrome was admitted with right flank pain after minimal trauma. Imaging by contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed massive perirenal fluid (18  × 14 × 20 cm, left kidney) and hematoma (12 × 8 × 17 cm, right kidney) with active bleeding on the right side (Figures 1 and 2, Supplementary Figure S1). The left kidney appeared markedly compressed by the subcapsular fluid. Intraarterial angiography identified contrast extravasation from a peripheral branch of a mid-segmental artery and the vessel was occ...

The case of a patient with an actively bleeding pseudoaneurysm associated with remnants of a polytetrafluoroethylene femoral bypass graft in his transfemoral residual limb is described. Initial graft placement was due to peripheral arterial disease. During subsequent transfemoral amputation, remnants of the nonpatent graft were retained in the residuum. After 4 yrs of lower limb prosthesis use, a proximal anastomosis pseudoaneurysm developed (with avulsion of graft remnants). The patient presented to clinic with a 5-day history of increased left groin fullness and largely nonradiating pain (rated 10/10). He was diagnosed w...

You may have heard melasma referred to as “the mask of pregnancy,” because it is sometimes triggered by an increase in hormones in pregnant women. But while the condition may be common among pregnant women, you don’t have to be pregnant to experience melasma. “It’s not only associated with pregnancy, but can affect women at all stages of life,” says Dr. Shadi Kourosh, director of the Pigmentary Disorder and Multi-Ethnic Skin Clinic at Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital. And it may last for many years. “Women who develop melasma in their teens or 20s or 30s may see it...

The objective of this review is to correlate radiological findings of silicone-induced granuloma of breast implant capsule (SIGBIC) from breast MRI (BMRI) scans and complementary findings of ultrasound (US) and positron emission tomography (PET) scan, and its histology originated from surgical breast implant capsulectomy. To make this correlation possible, we divided SIGBIC into three radiological findings: (1) intracapsular SIGBIC, (2) SIGBIC with extracapsular extension, and (3) mixed SIGBIC associated with seroma. Our experience demonstrates histological-radiological correlation in SIGBIC diagnosis. Knowledge of these f...

Authors: Trizuljak J, Kozubík KS, Radová L, Pešová M, Pál K, Réblová K, Stehlíková O, Smejkal P, Zavřelová J, Pacejka M, Mayer J, Pospíšilová Š, Doubek M Abstract Mutations in the GP1BA gene have been associated with platelet-type von Willebrand disease and Bernard-Soulier syndrome. Here, we report a novel GP1BA mutation in a family with autosomal dominant macrothrombocytopenia and mild bleeding. We performed analyses of seven family members. Using whole-exome sequencing of germline DNA samples, we identified a hetero...
