Body consciousness of people with intestinal stomach: A phenomenological study. Rev Bras Enferm. 2018 Mar-Apr;71(2):391-397 Authors: Marques ADB, Amorim RF, Landim FLP, Moreira TMM, Branco JGO, Morais PB, Santos ZMSA Abstract OBJECTIVE: to describe the bodily awareness of people with stomies. METHOD: a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, carried out in the Ostomized Association of the State of Ceará, through semi-structured interviews with ten people with intestinal stomies, according to Merleau-Ponty's phenomenological thinking. RESULTS: two categories of analysis emerged: The body that I have, in which the sensations of deficiency, imperfection and bad odor add to the feeling of strangeness towards one's own body, affecting the way of being in the world of each deponent; and The body that others perceive, in which the stoma is seen as an embarrassing and complex experience, since it hampers daily activities and conviviality with other people. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: The corporeal consciousness of Being-Stomp-in-the-world requires the movement to reconstruct the senses of the body from the body I have and from that which others perceive. Authors: Visani G, Loscocco F, Isidori A, Piccaluga PP Abstract INTRODUCTION: Despite substantial progresses in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) diagnosis and treatment, at least half of patient will eventually die for the disease. In the last decades, the use of genetic and genomic approaches allowed the identification of patients with higher risk of recurrence after and/or resistance to CHT. However, though many novel drugs have been proposed and tested, only little clinical improvements have been made concerning the treatment of the so called 'high risk' patients. Areas covered: In this article, the authors, based o...

Authors: Favaloro EJ, Bonar R Abstract Testing of platelet function comprises a crucial element of hemostasis assessment, particularly for investigations into bleeding and/or bruising. The Platelet Function Analyzer (PFA)-100 is the most utilized primary hemostasis-screening test system available, as recently remodeled/upgraded to the PFA-200. Internal quality control (IQC) and external quality assessment (EQA) (including proficiency testing) represent critical elements of ensuring test practice quality. Although true for all tests, IQC and EQA are logistically challenging for platelet function testing, inclusive o...

METHODS: Blood samples were collected from 89 Israeli and Turkish patients, and from healthy control subjects of different origins. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood leukocytes and genotyped. RESULTS: The risk allele, A, in rs1800871, of IL-10 gene was highly prevalent in Behcet's uveitis and healthy c...

Authors: Rackovsky O, Hirten R, Ungaro R, Colombel JF Abstract INTRODUCTION: Perianal fistulizing disease is an aggressive and debilitating phenotype of Crohn's disease (CD), representing a significant therapeutic challenge. New work has led to advancement in epidemiology and long term outcomes of perianal disease. The range of therapeutic options continues to expand, including new biologic agents, biosimilars, and stem cell therapy. Areas covered: We discuss updates to all aspects of management of perianal disease, with a focus on the last three years of published data. Areas considered include new data on epidemi...
