Differentially expressed Secretoglobin 1C1 gene in nasal polyposis.
In this study, to determine the relationship between the Secretoglobin 1C1 gene promotor polymorphisms and the gene expression, the levels of 48 subjects were sequenced (24 patients with NP and 22 controls without sinonasal disease). The levels' expression of Secretoglobin 1C1 in the subjects' nasal mucosa was also detected using RT-PCR. In this study, the level of Secretoglobin 1C1's expression increased in NP (P= 0.003). Three polymorphisms were detected in the Secretoglobin 1C1 gene's promotor. The rs113795008 and rs2280540 variations were significantly high in NP (P= 0.005, P= 0.045). The the rs113795008 homozygous mutant type genotype (G/G) was associated with a high mRNA expression level of Secretoglobin 1C1 in NP (P= 0.009). A correlation was found between a high level of Secretoglobin 1C1 expression and its promotor polymorphism, which thus might increase and/or contribute to the susceptibility of developing NP in the Turkish population. The prevention of the development of gastrointestinal cancer, in particular the detection and resection of polyps, is the reason why screening endoscopy is conducted. Endoscopic methods are, and will continue to be, the gold standard diagnostic tool in the diagnosis of organic gastrointestina l diseases as, apart from the actual imaging of available sections of the gastrointestinal tract, they also allow for targeted biopsy of pathological changes.

Pediatric gastrointestinal polyps are mostly benign1; however, further considerations are warranted in immune-compromised patients.2 Here, we report gastrointestinal polyposis with microsporidia infection in a five-year-old girl with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and poor therapy compliance. The mother was HIV positive and not on highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HART).
Conclusions: Compared with outpatients, the inpatients showed higher overall significant findings. Men undergoing MCE were younger than the women, and more likely to have ulcerations. Older patients, whether outpatient or inpatient, had higher rates of significant findings, mainly polyp and angiodysplasia.
CONCLUSION: Different inflammatory endotypes of CRSwNP exhibited clearly different prognoses. The type-2 subgroup had high recurrence and co-morbid asthma rates comparable to the rates reported in Western countries. PMID: 29785413 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
