May good clinical communication contribute to pain reduction?

In the present issue of PEC, we publish a paper on the association between patients ’ perception of the relationship to their physicians and physical pain [1]. In the study reported in the paper, 951 elderly American veteran patients responded to questionnaires about their perception of the communication and interpersonal skills of the primary care medical team over the past six months. The survey also included questions about pain intensity, pain interference (the extent to which pain limits daily activities) and self-efficacy for managing chronic disease.
