GSK cautious on 2018, as drug competition looms, after fourth-quarter beats

LONDON (Reuters) - GlaxoSmithKline said on Wednesday its earnings could slip this year, after a better-than-expected performance in the fourth quarter, as the drugmaker faces increased competition in its core respiratory and HIV businesses.

Abstract It is known that most of the refractory ore are the basis of national economy and widely applied in various fields, however, the complexity of the chemical composition and the diversity of the crystallinity in the mineral phases make the sample pre-treatment of refractory ore still remains a challenge. In this work, the complete decomposition of the refractory ore sample can be achieved just by exposing the solid fusion agent and the refractory ore sample in the microwave irradiation environment for a few minutes, and induced by a drop of water. A digestion time of 15 min for 3.0 g solid fusion agent ...

Use of β-cyclodextrin as enhancer of ascorbic acid rejection in permselective films for amperometric biosensor applications. Talanta. 2018 Aug 15;186:53-59 Authors: Monti P, Rocchitta G, Marceddu S, Dettori MA, Fabbri D, Jaoua S, Migheli Q, Delogu G, Serra PA Abstract Interference rejection in amperometric biosensors can be more effective introducing some modifiers during electro-deposition of permselective film. Addition of β-cyclodextrin (βCD), a cyclic oligosaccharide composed of seven glucose units, to the ortho-phenylendiamine (oPD) monomer were already demonstrated to provide an e...

Abstract A novel sample preparation procedure relying on Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) combining different sorbent materials on a sequential-based cartridge was optimized and validated for the enrichment of 117 widely diverse contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) from surface waters (SW) and further combined chemical and biological analysis on subsequent extracts. A liquid chromatography coupled to high resolution tandem mass spectrometry LC-(HR)MS/MS protocol was optimized and validated for the quantitative analysis of organic CECs in SW extracts. A battery of in vitro CALUX bioassays for the assessment of endoc...

This study proposed the filtration method for removal of inhibitors from real urine samples for immunoassay without centrifuge. Although the inhibitors could not be removed by the physical filtration, the carboxyl group terminated silica effectively removed the inhibitors. In a low pH, antibody formed aggregation due to the protonation. We propose to adjust pH of the sample solution by adding a phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.5). As a result of pretreatment, the SPR immunosensing achieved the SPR signal of 45 mdeg and a low limit of detection with 100 ppq (100 fg mL-1). PMID: 29784396 [PubMed - in process]

Abstract As one of the most common post-translational modifications, protein N-glycosylation precipitates in many important biological processes and has closely correlations with the occurrence and progression of multiple diseases. Plasma exosomes secreted by cells contain various bioactive N-glycoproteins which may serve as potential biomarkers for early disease diagnosis and treatment. However, the protein N-glycosylation profile in human plasma exosome is largely unknown, due to the technical challenges in glycoprotein identification. Signals of the rare N-glycoproteins/N-glycopeptides are severely suppressed b...

dez-Polanco M, Muñoz R Abstract The work here presented aimed at developing an analytical method for the simultaneous determination of 22 pharmaceuticals and personal care products, including 3 transformation products, in sewage and sludge. A meticulous method optimization, involving an experimental design, was carried out. The developed method was fully automated and consisted of the online extraction of 17 mL of water sample by Direct Immersion Solid Phase MicroExtraction followed by On-fiber Derivatization coupled to Gas Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry (DI-SPME - On-fiber Derivatization - GC - MS). ...

Abstract Metabonomics has been widely used in disease diagnosis and clinically practical methods often require the detection of multi-class bio-samples. In this work, multi-class classification methods were investigated to simultaneously discriminate among 6 inherited metabolic diseases (IMDs) and the normal instances using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) of urine samples. Two common multi-class classification strategies, one-against-all (OAA) and one-against-one (OAO) were compared and enhanced using a novel ensemble classification strategy (ECS), which developed a set of sequential sub-classifiers b...

ni MJ Abstract A low-level data fusion strategy was developed and implemented for data processing of second-order liquid chromatographic data with dual detection, i.e. absorbance and fluorescence monitoring. The synergistic effect of coupling individual information provided by two different detectors was evaluated by analyzing the results gathered after the application of a series of data preprocessing steps and chemometric resolution. The chemometric modeling involved data analysis by MCR-ALS, PARAFAC and N-PLS. Their ability to handle the new data block was assessed through the estimation of the analytical figur...

In this study, an intelligent and label-free sensor is utilized for the first time to one-spot simultaneous detection hepatocellular carcinoma markers AFP and miRNA-122 by a resonance light scattering (RLS) sensor. cDNA1 hybridizes with cDNA2 to form double-stranded DNA (dsDNA). The construction of dsDNA and methyl violet is used to form the RLS sensor via the electronic interaction. When AFP or miRNA-122 is present, the cDNA (cDNA1 or cDNA2) can bindings of target, thereby RLS intensity changed proportionally with the concentration of AFP or that of miRNA-122. The detection limits of AFP and miRNA-122 are 0.94 μg/L a...
