Background and Purpose—The aim of the present study is to explore whether using 7 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging, additional brain changes can be observed in hereditary cerebral hemorrhage with amyloidosis-Dutch type (HCHWA-D) patients as compared with the established magnetic resonance imaging features of sporadic cerebral amyloid angiopathy. Methods—The local institutional review board approved this prospective cohort study. In all cases, informed consent was obtained. This prospective parallel cohort study was conducted between 2012 and 2014. We performed T2*-weighted magnetic resonance imaging performed at...

Publication date: Available online 24 May 2018 Source:Arab Journal of Gastroenterology Author(s): C. Díaz del Arco, M.J. Fernández Aceñero Gastrointestinal involvement is frequent in systemic amyloidosis. However, amyloidosis can rarely be confined to the gastrointestinal tract or appear as a tumour mass. There have been few reports describing amyloid globular deposits in a variety of locations, as opposed to the usual linear ones. We herein report a rare case of globular amyloidosis involving the large bowel, which to the best of our knowledge is the second reported in the world literature. A 74-year...

This article focuses on the role of echocardiography and MRI in the diagnosis of these structural diseases. Cardiomyopathies with hypertrophic pattern (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, restrictive cardiomyopathies, amyloidosis, Anderson-Fabry disease, and sarcoidosis), cardiomyopathies with dilated pattern, inflammatory cardiac diseases, and right ventricular arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy are analyzed. Finally, anatomic predictors of arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death are discussed. Each paragraph is attended by clinical cases that are discussed on the electrocardiogram, after integrated with the anatomic, functional, and he...

Discussion Most persons with preclinical AD will not develop AD dementia during their lifetimes. Lifetime risks help interpret the clinical significance of biomarker screening tests for AD.

DISCUSSION: Fat aspiration is underutilised for histologic confirmation of amyloidosis. A high rate of organ biopsies represents a failure to recognise the disease. Early awareness of amyloidosis in patients with organ dysfunction may lead to more judicious use of organ biopsies in this disease. Key messages Fat pad aspiration is underutilised to establish the diagnosis of amyloidosis. Bone marrow and fat pad aspiration obviates the need for invasive biopsies. The excessive use of organ biopsy in AL amyloidosis reflects failure to recognise the disease early in its course. PMID: 28271734 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]
