Abstract This paper presents the first comprehensive report on traditional uses of medicinal shrubs of Rawalakot city, district Poonch, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan. Ethobotanical data obtained from 120 informants were analyzed by relative frequency citation, use value, family use value, informant consensus factor, fidelity level and Jaccard index. In total, 41 shrubs belonging to 24 families and 34 genera were documented. Rosaceae was reported the most dominant family in the area (six species) and Berberidaceae showed maximum family use value (0.68). Abstract Patients with obstructive jaundice are prone to develop cardiovascular complications during surgery. However, the underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown. The present study was aimed to investigate the role of p38 MAPK-pHsp27 pathway in vascular hyporesponsiveness induced by obstructive jaundice. Firstly, an experimental rat obstructive jaundice model was established by bile duct ligation (BDL). We found that the thoracic aorta rings isolated from BDL rats showed decreased response to norepinephrine and acetylcholine, while continuous intraperitoneal injection with SB203580, a selective P38 MAPK inhi...

Conclusion: Gnetum ula stem extract and its isolated compound are safe and offered significant hepatoprotection against CCl4 induced toxicity. Isolated compound gnetol exhibited a potent antioxidant activity offering protection to liver damage. However, in vivo studies need to be carried out to validate the traditional use of G. ula . A 40-year-old Latino man presented to the emergency department (ED) after he awoke at 4 AM with blood oozing from his nose. He then began vomiting bright red blood with clots. In the 3 weeks prior, he had presented twice for varying complaints including hyperglycemia to 400 mg/dL, myalgias that impaired walking, and reports that he felt increasingly unwell with fevers, chills, night sweats, headaches, and progressively worsening productive cough. Authors: Tringali A, Boškoski I, Costamagna G Abstract Hilar cholangiocarcinoma (HCCA) involves a complex anatomical region where bile ducts, arteries, and veins create a complex network. HCCA can lead to biliary strictures at the main hepatic confluence, involving the right and left radicles. Endoscopic drainage of jaundiced patients with HCCA is challenging and carries a high risk of infective complications. HCCA needs a careful multidisciplinary evaluation to assess the indication and purposes (preoperative/palliative) of the biliary drainage. Biliary drainage in HCCA needs to be planned by magnetic reson...

Authors: Xie Y, Guo C, Liu Y, Shi L, Yu J Abstract Obstructive jaundice (OJ) is a common disease in clinical surgery. The present study aimed to determine the effects of dexmedetomidine (Dex) on hepatocyte apoptosis in rats with OJ and also to explore the underlying mechanism. A total of 30 adult male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: Sham group, bile duct ligation (BDL) group, and BDL+Dex group. The serum liver function index, expression levels of serum inflammatory factor interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and the liver pathological changes were compared a...
