Op-Ed: Employers are playing Russian Roulette with diabetes
The figures are alarming and only getting worse. Chronic health conditions make up the bulk of an employer ’s health costs, and the biggest among these is that of employees with diabetes — of which many also have additional chronic illnesses, such as cardiovascular disease.
Medical costs for people with diabetes are more than twice that of healthy employees — more than $11,000 a year. At most co mpanies, more than 9 percent of their workforce has diabetes, and it’s conservatively estimated…
