Conclusions This study demonstrates that CT analysis can provide more information about EAC dimensions than traditional techniques. Moreover, slight but statistically significant differences are associated with age, gender and laterality. Accurate estimation of EAC dimensions is important for the development of hearing aids and personal protective equipment and can also be helpful for surgical planning, specifically otoendoscopy. Future research will focus on simplifying computation, developing cross-cultural cohort comparisons, and application to otoendoscopic procedures.

By MARGALIT GUR-ARIE A few weeks ago one man, named @jack, decided that millions of people will be allowed to use up to 280 characters when expressing themselves on Jack’s public square platform. One man decides how many letters each and every one of us, including the “leader of the free world”, can use when we talk to each other. Just like that. Nobody seemed the least bit perturbed by this notion. Another dude, named Mark, decided to ask people for nude pictures of themselves, so he can better protect them from the bad guys. We shrugged that off too. Then, in a most embarrassing exercise in public humil...

Amit Pralhad Kamble, Rohini Rangarao Pawar, Sudha Mattigatti, TM Mangala, Saleem MakandarJournal of Conservative Dentistry 2017 20(4):273-277The purpose of these case reports is to emphasize the importance of knowledge regarding the root canal morphology and current diagnostic aids one should have as both of these important factors going to affect the prognosis of the endodontic treatment. These two case reports describe the maxillary and mandibular first molars with multiple canals. After clinical and radiographic diagnosis, additional help of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) of mandibular molar has been taken to eval...

ConclusionsIn this patient,C. septicum was thought to have entered his blood through a gastrointestinal tumor, infected the aorta, and spread to his kidneys. However, we were uncertain whether there was an associated malignancy.A literature review ofC. septicum-related aneurysms revealed the following: 6-month mortality, 79.5%; periaortic gas present in 92.6% of cases; no standard operative procedure and no guidelines for antimicrobial administration established; andC. septicum was associated with cancer in 82.5% of cases. Thus, we advocate for early diagnosis via the identification of periaortic gas, as an aortic aneurysm ...

CONCLUSIONS: CSF HIV-1 RNA viral load estimation can be a useful tool for clinicians in confirming neurological involvement in HIV infected patients. Hence, in HIV positive patients suspected to have neurological involvement, CSF viral load studies should be done. Serial estimations of CSF HIV-1 RNA levels can be of prognostic significance. Estimation of CSF HIV-1 RNA level before and serially during administration of HAART can be useful to judge the efficacy of HAART. PMID: 28799299 [PubMed - in process]

We report a case of a 52-year-old African-American woman with a past medical history of cervical cancer (stage IIIB) who presented with pain and swelling in her left upper arm over the preceding 2 months. MRI of the left upper arm showed a solid well-circumscribed mass measuring 7.0 × 2.8 × 2.5 cm, deep to the biceps. Biopsy of the mass revealed a metastatic squamous cell carcinoma that was p16-positive. PET scan showed that the lesion was the sole site of metastasis. She received local radiation with concurrent chemotherapy. Follow-up MRI 6 months after the completion of the rapy showed resolution of the mass....

This study was conducted to evaluate the reliability of orthopantomography (OPG) and CBCT in presurgical implant planning. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was conducted on 110 partially or completely edentulous adult patients (male 50 and female 60). Patient information regarding name, age, gender, and so forth was recorded. Thorough clinical examination was done to locate the edentulous site for the placement of implant. All patients were subjected to OPG and CBCT. The OPG was taken with digital panoramic unit (Planmeca) operating at 120 kVp, 2 mA, and exposure time of 17 seconds. The CBCT was taken using NewTom mac...

Objective: A greater burden of physical function impairment occurs in HIV-infected adults; the impact of antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation on muscle density (less dense = more fat), a measure of muscle quality, is unknown. Design: AIDS Clinical Trials Group Study A5260s, a cardiometabolic substudy of A5257, randomized HIV-infected, ART-naive adults to ritonavir-boosted atazanavir, darunavir, or raltegravir with tenofovir/emtricitabine backbone. Single-slice abdominal computed tomography scans from baseline and week 96 were reanalyzed for total and lean muscle area and density. Methods: Two-sample t-tests descri...

Abstract Introduction68Ga‐PSMA positron emission tomography–computed tomography (PET/CT) is useful for both staging and assessment of biochemical relapse in men with prostate cancer. Renal excretion of 68Ga‐PSMA can lead to difficulties in scan interpretation, particularly in the pelvis. We evaluated if intravenous Frusemide at the time of 68Ga‐PSMA injection reduces excreted activity artefact and improves diagnostic certainty. MethodsSixty‐two men with prostate cancer undergoing clinically indicated 68Ga‐PSMA PET/CT were prospectively included, 30 men receiving Frusemide at the time of radiotracer injectio...

Abstract In teaching and learning human anatomy, anatomical autopsy and prosected specimens have always been indispensable. However, alternative methods must often be used to demonstrate particularly delicate structures. Corrosion casting of porcine organs with Biodur E20(®) Plus is valuable for teaching and learning both gross anatomy and, uniquely, the micromorphology of cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, and urogenital systems. Assessments of casts with a stereomicroscope and/or scanning electron microscope as well as highlighting cast structures using color coding helps students to better understand h...
