AbstractComputerized tomographic imaging of the nasal and paranasal regions has become an indispensable tool for the endoscopic sinonasal surgery. The case control study was carried out on 120 patients for pilot study and 800 patients for the main study. The cases were selected with a clinical diagnosis of chronic rhino sinusitis. They were referred for a sinus CT scan by otolaryngologists and controls from the normal population. The patients were separated into males and females and anatomical variations were assessed. Increased prevalence of left sided nasal septal deviation and type II nasal septal deviation was seen in...

Conclusions: The study suggests that 18F- FDG PET-CT performed before &after starting anti-tubercular treatment helps to differentiate responders from non responders in patients of Extra- pulmonary Tuberculosis. FDG PET-CT helps to determine therapeutic response &can suggest if a change of therapy plan is required. Further studies are needed to confirm whether FDG PET-CT can accurately determine the End-Point of treatment. Conclusions: 18F-FDG PET-CT is a very useful modality for early monitoring of treatment response in lesions of Tuberculosis. Both PET &CT were found to be useful in spinal tuberculosis, but PET can detect extra-spinal lesions in addition.AcknowledgementsAll authors are grateful to the International Atomic Energy Agency for their support of the Coordinated Research Project (CRP) E15021- "Use of 18F-FDG PET/CT for Imaging TB Patients &Related Conditions (HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis): Focus on Drug Resistant Extrapulmonary Tuberculosis."

The substantial decline in thePneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PCP) incidence in HIV-infected patients after the introduction of antiretroviral therapy (ART) in resource-rich settings and the growing number of non-HIV-infected immunocompromised patients at risk leads to considerable epidemiologic changes with clinical, diagnostic, and treatment consequences for physicians. HIV-infected patients usually develop a subacute course of disease, while non-HIV-infected immunocompromised patients are characterized by a rapid disease progression with higher risk of respiratory failure and higher mortality. The main symptoms usuall...

This article familiarizes health care providers with this syndrome and the utility and shortcomings of VEMP as a diagnostic test and also explores payment policies for VEMP. Recent findings In carefully selected patients with documented history compatible with the SCDS, both high-resolution temporal bone CT scan and VEMP are valuable aids for diagnosis. Payers might be unfamiliar with both this syndrome and VEMP testing. Summary It is important to raise awareness of VEMP and its possible indications and the rationale for coverage of VEMP testing. Payers may not be readily receptive to VEMP coverage if this test is used i...

Conclusions This study demonstrates that CT analysis can provide more information about EAC dimensions than traditional techniques. Moreover, slight but statistically significant differences are associated with age, gender and laterality. Accurate estimation of EAC dimensions is important for the development of hearing aids and personal protective equipment and can also be helpful for surgical planning, specifically otoendoscopy. Future research will focus on simplifying computation, developing cross-cultural cohort comparisons, and application to otoendoscopic procedures.

By MARGALIT GUR-ARIE A few weeks ago one man, named @jack, decided that millions of people will be allowed to use up to 280 characters when expressing themselves on Jack’s public square platform. One man decides how many letters each and every one of us, including the “leader of the free world”, can use when we talk to each other. Just like that. Nobody seemed the least bit perturbed by this notion. Another dude, named Mark, decided to ask people for nude pictures of themselves, so he can better protect them from the bad guys. We shrugged that off too. Then, in a most embarrassing exercise in public humil...
