Precision Medicine and the Reinvention of Human Disease (Book Index)

In January, 2018, Academic Press published my bookPrecision Medicine and the Reinvention of Human Disease. This book has an excellent " look inside " at itsGoogle book site, which includes the Table of Contents. In addition, I thought it might be helpful to see the topics listed in the Book's index. Note that page numbers followed by f indicate figures, t indicate tables, and ge indicate glossary terms.AAbandonware, 270, 310geAb initio, 34, 48ge, 108geABL (abelson leukemia) gene, 28, 58ge, 95 –97Absidia corymbifera, 218Acanthameoba, 213Acanthosis nigricans, 144geAchondroplasia, 74, 143ge, 354geAcne, 54ge, 198, 220geAcquired autoantibody disease, 133Acquired Parkinsonism, 105ge, 128, 281Acrodermatisis verruciformis, 26 –27Acrokeratosis verruciformis of Hopf, 23 –24Actinic keratoses, 33Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans, 217Actinomyces pyogenes, 217Activated oncogene, 28, 34 –35, 57ge, 222geAcute anterior uveitis, 208Acute flaccid myelitis, 204 –205Acutely transforming retroviruses, 46 –47Acute myelogenous/myeloid leukemia, 33 –34, 97, 139,156 –157Adaptive immunity evolved, 192Adenosine deaminase, 46, 72, 80Adrenocortical carcinoma, 73, 103geAdult T-cell leukemia, 339Adverse effect, 275, 352 –353Aflatoxin, 30, 182 and hepatocellular carcinoma, 30, 182Age adjusted incidence, 338, 354geAge related macular degeneration, 105ge, 138, 199Aggregate disease, 80, 98geAging, 35 –36, 70–71, 125–126, 234, 3...

Although effective, nivolumab is associated with immune-related adverse events (irAEs). However, the occurrence of hematological irAEs is rare. Some studies have reported on nivolumab-induced thrombocytopenia. Nivolumab associated thrombocytopenia in almost all patients improved with administration of various drugs. H...

We present the case of pre-operative pelvic lymph node sampling with the use of MRI/TRUS fusion-guided biopsy at the time of prostate biopsy. Lymph node pathology revealed metastatic, poorly differentiated prostate cancer, concurrent with Gleason 4+5 disease showing perineural invasion. The use of MRI fusion guided biopsy for nodal sampling may be an effective method pre-operative staging and treatment planning for prostate adenocarcinoma.

ConclusionsThese voting results from a panel of prostate cancer experts can help clinicians and patients navigate controversial areas of advanced prostate management for which high-level evidence is sparse. However, diagnostic and treatment decisions should always be individualised based on patient-specific factors, such as disease extent and location, prior lines of therapy, comorbidities, and treatment preferences, together with current and emerging clinical evidence and logistic and economic constraints. Clinical trial enrolment for men with advanced prostate cancer should be strongly encouraged. Importantly, APCCC 2019...

KobrinAbstractSymptom awareness may improve cancer outcomes by prompting timely help-seeking and diagnosis. Research in the UK has shown lower symptom awareness among sociodemographic groups at higher risk of poor cancer outcomes; however, no population-based surveys in the US have assessed whether cancer symptom awareness varies across sociodemographic groups. We therefore examined associations between sociodemographic factors and recognition of 11 cancer symptoms using a novel populati...

PadulaAbstractThe incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) is increasing in patients under the age of 50. The purpose of this study was to assess the cost-utility of available screening modalities starting at 40 years in the general population compared to standard screening at 50 years old. A decision tree modeling average-risk of the CRC in the United States population was constructed for the cost per quality-adjusted life year (QALY) of the five most common and ef...
