Microbiological study of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis in Tanta University Hospitals: empirical antibiotic therapy
Conclusion
E. coli is the most common organism causing SBP; however, Gram positive bacteria are progressively increasing. Meropenem and amikacin are the drugs of choice for empirical treatment with increasing resistance to third-generation cephalosporins.
