In memoriam Michel Jouvet 1925 –2017
One of the great pioneers in sleep research, Michel Jouvet passed away in Villeurbanne (Rhone), France on October 3rd, 2017 at the age of 91. He grew out of the great tradition of experimental medicine from Claude Bernard that inspired Jouvet's scientific approach. Born in Lons-Le-Saunier (Jura), France in 1925, Jouvet studied medicine at the Faculte de Medicine, now l’Université Claude Bernard, in Lyon and later became the Director of the Laboratoire de Médicine Expérimentale there in 1966 while also Chief of the Clinical Neurophysiology serv ice at the Hôpital Neurologique from 1963.
