Benefit Finding and Diurnal Cortisol after Prostate Cancer: The Mediating Role of Positive Affect

ConclusionsDeriving more benefit from one's experience with prostate cancer is associated with a healthier diurnal cortisol rhythm. Through its potential to enhance PA, the relationship of BF and physiological processes underscores the health relevant value of BF in prostate cancer survivors.

Authors: Kang S, Kim HI, Choi YJ, Lee SK, Kim JH, Cheon C, Ko SG Abstract Dysregulated lipid metabolism is a prominent feature of prostate cancers (PCas); several enzymes involved in lipid accumulation are highly expressed. Here, we elucidated efficacy of TJ001, a traditional herbal decoction, in inhibiting de novo lipogenesis. TJ001 had significant cytotoxicity against DU145 but not PC3 and LNCaP cells and, similarly, TJ001 markedly AMPK phosphorylation only in DU145 cells. This was accompanied by the downregulation of phosphorylated-acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase (ACC) expression and sterol regulatory element-bind...

ConclusionsRadium-223 was generally well tolerated and there were no safety concerns. The adverseevents were mild and manageable. A decline in serum alkaline phosphatase was more frequent than a decline in the prostate-specific antigen. Monitoring changes in serum alkaline phosphatase dynamics may be useful.

Publication date: Available online 13 June 2019Source: Journal of Theoretical BiologyAuthor(s): Ayako Nakanishi, Yoshito HirataAbstractHormone therapy is one of the popular therapeutic methods for prostate cancer. Intermittent androgen suppression (IAS) is the method which stops and resumes hormone therapy repeatedly. The efficacy of IAS differs depending on patients; both the cases have been reported where the relapse of cancer happened and did not happen, for the patients who had undergone IAS. For the patients who cannot avoid the relapse of cancer by IAS, we should delay the relapse of cancer as later as possible. Here...

ConclusionsThe Retzius-sparing approach significantly reduces time to continence following RALP. Further studies are required to confirm the reproducibility of our results and investigate the role of the RS-RALP as an additional “protective” factor for postoperative continence in the elderly population.

(West Virginia University) If the American Cancer Society's projections prove accurate, more people will die from pancreatic cancer than from breast, brain, ovarian or prostate cancer this year. WVU researcher Brian Boone was part of a team that studied a new combination of drugs to treat pancreatic cancer. In their meta-analysis, the drug combination -- FOLFIRINOX -- was associated with better surgical options and longer overall survival.

Authors: Nowacka-Zawisza M, Raszkiewicz A, Kwasiborski T, Forma E, Bryś M, Różański W, Krajewska WM Abstract Genetic polymorphisms in DNA repair genes may affect DNA repair efficiency and may contribute to the risk of developing cancer. The aim of our study was to investigate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in RAD51 (rs2619679, rs2928140, and rs5030789) and XRCC3 (rs1799796) involved in DNA double-strand break repair and their relationship to prostate cancer. The study group included 99 men diagnosed with prostate cancer and 205 cancer-free controls. SNP genotyping was performed using the PCR-RFLP ...
