Tuberous Breast: Past, Present, and Future Personal Classification, Treatment, and Surgical Outcomes

Conclusions Preoperative identification of the type of the deformity is essential to obtain satisfactory results and a complete and intuitive classification including all the possible variants of the deformity, even the minor forms, and fundamental in diagnosing and resolving the problem. In this article, the authors propose a personal classification and surgical procedure to resolve the malformation.

Background Because of lack of patient education on the importance of surgeon certification and barriers to access a plastic surgeon (PS), non–PSs are becoming more involved in providing implant-based breast reconstruction procedures. We aim to clarify differences in outcomes and resource utilization by surgical specialty for implant-based breast reconstruction. Methods Data were obtained from the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database from 2012 to 2014. Patients undergoing immediate implant-based reconstruction or immediate/delayed tissue expander–based reconstr...

Tuinder, Rainer Goebel, René R.W.J. van der HulstAbstractHow are tactile sensations in the breast represented in the female and male brain? Using ultra high-field 7 T MRI in ten females and ten males, we demonstrate that the representation of tactile breast information shows a somatotopic organization, with cortical magnification of the nipple. Furthermore, we show that the core representation of the breast is organized according to the specific nerve arch...

ConclusionsPatients receiving perioperative gabapentin, acetaminophen, and NSAIDs under an ERAS protocol required significantly fewer narcotics and shorter length of stay. This protocol may merit consideration for use at other centers.

SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Three hundred and sixty seven women with histologically confirmed breast cancer were included in this analysis. All patients were candidates for conservative breast surgery and had cT1-3N0-1 stage of disease. Scintimammography was performed in prone position 5-10min after intravenous injection of 740MBq of technetium-99m-methoxy-isobtyl-is...

Authors: Cassai A, Bonanno C, Sandei L, Finozzi F, Carron M, Marchet A Abstract Background: Breast cancer is complicated by a high incidence of chronic postoperative pain (25%-60%). Regional anesthesia might play an important role in lowering the incidence of chronic pain; however it is not known if the pectoral nerve block (PECS block), which is commonly used for breast surgery, is able to prevent this complication. Our main objective was therefore to detect any association between the PECS block and chronic pain at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months in patients undergoing breast surgery. Methods: We conducted a prospecti...

Summary: Both thromboembolism and excessive bleeding following breast surgery could result in multiple surgical procedures, breast reconstruction failure, or even mortality. This systematic review and meta-analysis of 5617 female breast surgery patients compared pharmacologic prophylaxis to non-pharmacologic prophylaxis interventions during the pre, intra, and/or post-operative time points and evaluated associated outcomes and complications. The PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases were systematically and independently searched.

The aims of this study were to explore the expression of hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and c-myc protein in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and its clinical prognostic significance, and to establish a prediction model for postoperative survival of TNBC based on nomogram. A total of 87 patients with TNBC at the Department of Breast Surgery, Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, Capital Medical University from January 2012 to December 2015 were enrolled in this study. Immunohistochemistry was performed to detect the expression of HIF-1α and c-myc protein in breast cancer tissues. Cox regression analyses w...
