Rationale: Tracheobronchomalacia (TBM) refers to the weakening trachea or the trachea loss of structural integrity of airway cartilaginous structures. It causes tracheal stenosis, resulting in significantly high rates of mortality. Bronchoplasty by high-pressure balloon dilation under general anesthesia is a simple but effective and safe method to treat tracheobronchial stenosis. However, recurrent postoperative dyspnea after extubation due to tracheal collapse is still a challenge for anesthetists. Patient concerns: A 52-year-old man weighing 72 kg was scheduled for balloon dilatation surgery under general anesthes...

Conclusions Consent remains challenging even with a standardized process. Information retention improves significantly with the use of information sheets. We advocate the use of standard consent and provision of patient information sheets for commonly performed procedures.

Cooper, New York City, 20071.Thursday morning, I woke up, got my kids ready and took them to school. I came home, tidied up the rest of the dishes, and gave my dog Cooper an indulgent breakfast: a full can of her favorite soft dog food —not just a quarter of a can mixed in with her dry food like usual, but the whole thing, every last bit, all to herself. After she finished, I carried her to my car. We drove to the vet, where a kind receptionist showed me into an exam room, past a potted ficus plant and a cheerful wooden sign rea ding, “Think PAWS-ITIVELY!” I sat down on a bench. Cooper stuck her head behi...

Abstract Trapeziectomy alone or in combination with a suspensionplasty technique is a common surgical treatment for symptomatic thumb basal joint arthritis. The authors undertook a prospective comparative study to test the hypothesis that peripheral nerve blocks would provide better pain control than local anesthesia with bupivacaine or liposomal bupivacaine regarding pain scores and opioid pill consumption. Patients who elected to undergo basal joint arthroplasty were allocated to 1 of 3 postoperative pain management groups: (1) peripheral nerve block, (2) local anesthesia with bupivacaine, or (3) local anesthesi...

This study aimed to systematically review the literature to identify differences between computer-navigated and robotic-assisted UKAs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty total articles were identified. Data pertaining to demographics, outcomes, and complications/failures were extracted from each study. Reoperation/revision rates, indications for reoperation/revision, type of procedure, and number of patients who underwent conversion to TKA (when available) were recorded. RESULTS: Nine studies reported 451 computer-navigated medial UKAs, with 19 (3.9%) reportedly requiring reoperation: primary revision (n=8; 42.1%), conv...

CONCLUSION: Long peripheral cannulas represent a valid option for medium-term intravenous access in children undergoing surgery. Majority of patients will be successfully treated with one long peripheral cannula for the duration of their treatment without the need for further cannulation.
