(Reuters Health) - - Even though many patients with blood clots in their veins are told to wear compression stockings for two years to prevent complications like pain and swelling, a new study suggests they may get the same results in half the time.

An 85-year-old patient with a history of oxygen-dependent chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and coronary artery bypass grafting (LIMA-LAD, free vein-circumflex) presented to the emergency department with chest and back pain. Computed tomography angiography (CTA) confirmed acute type a thoracic aortic dissection limited to the ascending thoracic aorta. Aneurysm size is 10 cm. This patient was evaluated by cardiovascular surgeons who offered the patient palliative care secondary to perioperative risk and sent home.
Pelvic congestion syndrome (PCS), which is caused in part by incompetent ovarian or pelvic veins, can lead to chronic abdominal pain and pelvic varicosities in premenopausal women. The aim of this study is to evaluate the treatment efficacy of venous embolization in PCS.
We report the case of a 66-year old gentleman who was transferred to our facility with acute abdominal pain. A computed tomography (CT) scan was obtained after pre-medication because of contrast dye allergy. His past medical history included a cardiac transplant and congestive heart failure (ejection fraction 20%).
