This study will evaluate whether a video clinic implemented at the University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) NHS Foundation Trust improves patient satisfaction compared to standard face-to-face appointments for liver transplant patients.MethodsThis will be a parallel, two-arm, statistician-blinded, randomised evaluation. Clinically stable liver patients at 1 to 5 years post-transplant (n = 180) will be randomised in equal numbers to video clinic appointments (intervention) or standard face-to-face appointments (control). The intervention group will have outpatient appointments from home via a secure video lin...

ConclusionAARC-ACLF and CLIF–SOFA models are superior to other prognostic scores in pediatric ACLF. The scores are dynamic and a patient with either of these scores ≥ 11 at admission and/or a rising score at day 4 has high likelihood of death and needs to be urgently listed for liver transplantation.

ABSTRACT Transthyretin familial amyloid polyneuropathy is an autosomal dominant inherited sensorimotor and autonomic polyneuropathy, which if untreated, leads to death in approximately 10 years. In Brazil, liver transplant and tafamidis are the only disease-modifying treatments available. This review consists of a consensus for the diagnosis, management and treatment for transthyretin familial amyloid polyneuropathy from the Peripheral Neuropathy Scientific Department of the Brazilian Academy of Neurology. The first and last authors produced a draft summarizing the main views on the subject and emailed the text to 10 other...

ConclusionsLung and liver transplantation in AATD patients are associated with very good long-term survival rates that are comparable to, and sometimes superior to, other transplant indications. Although not currently recommended in AATD, LVRS may have a role in a minority of patients. The value of Alpha 1 Antitrypsin (AAT) augmentation therapy following lung transplantation requires further study. Wherever possible, AAT therapy should be continued in the period around elective surgeries.SummaryAlthough AATD is a widely discussed and researched topic in the literature, surgical intervention for AATD, in addition to the man...
ConclusionThere might be a global changing figure regarding etiologies of HCC in Latin America. This epidemiological change on the incidence of HCC in the world, although it has been reported, should still be confirmed in prospective studies.
