Transauricular vagus nerve stimulation at auricular acupoints Kindey (CO10), Yidan (CO11), Liver (CO12) and Shenmen (TF4) can induce auditory and limbic cortices activation measured by fMRI.

In conclusion, taVNS at acupoints CO10-12, TF4 could activate the prefrontal, auditory and limbic cortices of healthy brain and this scheme could be a promising tool for tinnitus treatment. PMID: 29305037 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionsThe 4 hallmark radiographic findings for an aberrant ICA are an enlarged inferior tympanic canaliculus (ITC), an enhancing hypotympanic mass, an absent vertical segment of the ICA, and dehiscence of the cortex covering the tympanic portion of the ICA.4 Because of the lack of soft tissue/vascular contrast on a CBCT image, only an enlarged ITC and dehiscence of the cortex were seen in this study. Aberrant ICAs are known to cause tinnitus, which can mimic symptoms of a temporomandibular disorder (TMD).5 Because the patient was lost to follow-up, these findings could not be correlated clinically. However, it is impo...

Authors: Cederroth CR, Dyhrfjeld-Johnsen J, Langguth B Abstract INTRODUCTION: During the last decade, a number of candidate drugs for the treatment of tinnitus have emerged with the hope of alleviating the burden of millions of sufferers with a persisting ringing in their ears. Knowledge of the pathophysiologic mechanisms has progressed remarkably in the recent years, which has led to the identification of potential new drug targets for the treatment of tinnitus. However, pharmacologic interventions are still limited. Areas covered: In this editorial results from recent Phase 3 and Phase 2a trials investigating the...

Conclusions: This study confirms that otosclerosis is an early adult onset disease that is more prevalent in women than men with a large minority of patients having a family history of otosclerosis. We report new evidence to support a relationship between pregnancy and otosclerosis progression in a proportion of women. In addition, this is the first study to identify differences in severity between familial and non-familial cases of otosclerosis, highlighting the possibility that more than one etiology may be involved.

Conclusion: The MRI results with SWI were related to neurotological findings in patients suffering from sensorineural deafness with ataxia due to SS. Our findings support the integration of the SWI and 3D-CISS sequences into the MRI protocol for all patients referred for evaluation of the extent of SS.

ConclusionsPrevalence of anxiety is higher among people with hearing impairment than the general population; our findings indicate that this excess morbidity may be related to the hearing impairment itself, as it was associated with the severity of impairment, and reduced after surgical treatment. Clinicians should be aware of the potential impact of hearing on mental health, and that where hearing ability can be improved, this may reduce anxiety.Prospero registration numberCRD42018088463.
