Infection of the skin by Aspergillus speciesmost commonly occurs through direct innoculation of damaged skin, in which case it is called primary cutaneous aspergillosis (PCA). PCA is often a devastating and life-threatening infection that has been described in all age groups. Premature neonates are at particular risk due to a smaller pool of monocytes and neutrophils, impaired T-cell activation and an immature skin barrier as well as considerably decreased cord blood TNF- α and IL-6. Skin maceration, moisture buildup and disruption of barrier integrity are believed to contribute to the pathophysiology of PCA, and occ...

AbstractChronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) has a substantial worldwide prevalence and is a major cause of hearing impairment. In cases of CSOM unresponsive to local antibiotics, superimposed fungal infection should be suspected. The aim of the present study was to study the spectrum of cases with fungal otitis media. The study was conducted over a period of 12  years (2006–2017). Fifteen cases of CSOM clinically not suspected to be of fungal etiology that underwent surgery with identification of fungal organisms on histopathology were included in the study. Age of the patients ranged from 12 to 75 year...

Two new isocoumarins, (3R)-methyl-8-hydroxy-6-(hydroxymethyl)-7-methoxydihydroisocoumarin (1) and (3R)-methyl-7,8-dimethoxy-6-(hydroxymethyl)dihydroisocoumarin (2), together with three known isocoumarins (3–5), were isolated from the fermentation products of an endophytic fungus Aspergillus versicolor. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, including extensive 1D and 2D NMR techniques. The anti-tobacco mosaic virus (anti-TMV) activities of compounds1 and2 were evaluated. Compounds1 and2 showed anti-TMV activities with inhibition rates of 21.8 and 18.6% at the concentration of 20 μM, respectively.

Vinokurov, Andrei A. Novikov Methanolysis of sunflower oil catalyzed by immobilized Aspergillus niger mycelium was studied in a packed-bed reactor. The optimal cultivation parameters for A. niger were determined using full factorial and steepest ascent experimental designs. Sunflower oil, yeast extract and soybean meal were selected as the best carbon and nitrogen sources and were used in the subsequent experiments. Intracellular...
