Locus of Control and Trait Anxiety in Aged Adults: the Mediating Effect of Intolerance of Uncertainty

This study aimed to examine the mediating effect of intolerance of uncertainty (IU) on the relationship between locus of control and trait anxiety. Three hundred seventeen aged adults completed measures of IU, locus of control, and trait anxiety. Results demonstrated significant positive associations among all variables. SEM analysis was adopted to test the mediating effect. Bootstrap method was used to test the significance of the indirect effect. According to the results, both locus of control and IU can predicate trait anxiety significantly. Additionally, IU partially mediated the effect of locus of control on trait anxiety. Future directions and implications are discussed.
