Redwood City biopharma startup hopes to raise up to $98M in what could be Bay Area's first IPO of 2018

Menlo Therapeutics Inc. filed Thursday to raise up to about $98 million in what could be the first IPO of the New Year from the Bay Area. The Redwood City-based late-stage biopharma company led by CEO Stephen Basta specializes in developing treatments for itchy skin disorders. It said in its prospectus that if all goes well, it could be seeking government approval of three treatments by 2020. There were only two health-related IPOs from the region in 2017.
